In Fisch, mutations are not just a nice bonus; they’re a major part of your strategy if you want to make real money and fill out your Bestiary. With over 70 mutations and counting, each one brings a different value boost to the fish you catch, and some are crucial for quests, rare drops, or even exclusive rewards.
It doesn’t matter if you are trying to aim for high-value fish or just trying to complete your collection, knowing how these mutations work (and how to get them) is key to leveling up your fishing game.
🌟What Are Mutations?
So mutations are like an upgrades in your game, and they are way visible then you think. They change the appearance of your fish and increase its value, sometimes by over 10×. Only one mutation can appear on a fish at a time, and some mutations are available everywhere, while others require specific rods, baits, weather events, or locations. For example, using the Aurora Rod in the right conditions gives you a shot at the Aurora mutation, which boosts value by 6.5×. Meanwhile, the Blessed mutation (from the Seraphic or Tryhard Rods) multiplies value by 10×.
💰Attributes vs. Mutations
Sadly, ecery fish can have only one mutation. But attributes can stack on top of that. There are currently four known attributes: Big, Giant, Shiny, and Sparkling. A fish could be a Giant Sparkling Mythical Tuna, which means it has both visual flair and a massive price tag. Big and Giant are size-based, so they can’t occur together. But Sparkling and Shiny can combine with either of those—and with mutations. Those two combinations are pretty wild together.
💎 Mutation Tiers & How to Unlock Them
Here’s a selection of powerful and popular mutations with their requirements and multipliers. But keep in mind all are non-stackable.

👑Appraisal Surprise Mutations
The Appraiser NPC in Moosewood can be a secret weapon. For 450C$, you can re-roll the stats on your fish. Sometimes this lowers the weight (which might remove Big or Giant), but occasionally it adds a new mutation or attribute altogether. Common appraisal mutations include Mythical, Fossilized, Glossy, Midas, and even Greedy—all of which offer sizable value boosts. While not reliable, it’s a great way to potentially upgrade good catches or give new life to near-misses.
❓Final Thoughts
Mutations are a major part of what makes Fisch feel dynamic. Mastering them means knowing your rods, tracking events, and sometimes investing in the right enchantments or baits. But even without rare gear, you can get started with appraisal rolls and smart fishing during weather or time-based events.
Whether you’re farming Mythical Tuna for stacks of cash or trying to catch a Carrot mutation for your Bestiary, keeping track of what’s possible—and when—is half the fun.
Mutations might seem like endgame fluff at first, but once you catch your first 10× fish, you’ll see why they’re the real heart of the game.
